THE LOOK BOOK OF GORILATOPUS

The whole process of story and background setting was one which was an eye opener and at the same time exciting for me. For once I had to create something out of my own initiation and also with the freedom of carrying out different experiments as I tried to visualise the film form.  One would probably see from my creations below is that I like the use of deep tones and vibrant colours’.

Below are some of the   videos I created to   simulate the   scene setting of the story.

The river below will act as a metaphor of a new lease of life Don is given. This all suggest that although all the odds are stacked against him there is hope somewhere.

As the story moves forward   past the mid point, this is when   don gets metamorphosed into Gorilatopus creature. In order to show and simulate the scene settings of Gorillatopus I have experimented with plastic tubing animatronic puppet, cloud tank-using   mixed media as shown below.

The reverse motion clip below was in created in odder to help drive the narrative   forward and also bringing in an element of mystery and magic before the mertamorphing.

The below clip will form part of the final background setting of Gorilatopus at night. The reason being that overall setting replicated here denotes an alien sort of planet. However there is still work in progress to be done in tweaking the lighting, adding some miser- en- scene to improve the setting’s look. These videos will be stitched up in Adobe Premier and After Effects software to create a seamless film.

REFERENCED  PICTURES AND VIDEOS OF THE CHARACTER
I looked on Google and different wildlife textbooks and managed to find some pictures of gorillas showing different emotions. The you tube excerpts of King Kong and Planet of the apes also helped me in deciding the overall look, movement of my character (Don). In the end I managed to come up with this picture below.

Since my narrative is a traditional classical narrative with a science fiction, holograms and animatronics. I thought of creating a less of an archetypal gorilla story like King Kong,  hence my character's facial features are a cross between a horse's jawline ,dog's teeth and  gorilla torso. See the below character.

Referenced Images  of  a Gorilla I have found  on internet .The overall  look of these pictures tells a  story in a million ways  about the character 's  state of  mind.

The above pictures are the ones I have referenced when I was creating my Marquette and armature.   These three pictures do tell a story about Don's anguish, and his desire to be free. In conjunction I have looked at these two films of King Kong and Planet of the Apes, which have the same thematic message of captivity, abuse and betrayal as in my character.

Referenced videos and pictures for Gorilatopus

I did manage to get some picture references from the films Sharktopus, American werewolf in London, Miles from Tomorrow and the Star wars. Sharktopus and The American werewolf in London have elements of metarmophing which bods well with my narrative. Also Star wars and Miles from Tomorrow has the visual effects and alien planets of which I would like to incorporate some of the elements in my story.
